Nasua- kind of small mammal raccoon family. Nasua active during the daytime. Usually kept in groups of 5 - 6 to 40 individuals. Nasua so named for the small mobile proboscis formed by the front part of the upper lip and an elongated nose. The body length of 41-67 cm, tail 32-69 cm. Weight about 11 kg. During feeding your mobile nose digs in the litter, loud puffing and blowing leaves, looking for where the beetles, spiders, scorpions, ants, termites, and various larvae, centipedes and even land crabs. Sometimes they found small vertebrates, such as rodents, lizards and frogs. Females and cubs live in groups, while males are kept individually. During the mating season males and females visit the group with the help of cleaning wool and other gestures are trying to win the sympathy of females for mating, and then leave again. After a pregnancy lasting about 77 days, the female gives birth to two to six cubs. Young weigh 100-200 grams. Nasua living an average of 7-8 years, but in captivity can live up to 14 years. The maximum life span in captivity reached 17 years and 8 months.

    Nasua omnivores but prefer meat food.

  • Habitat

    Nasua spread almost all over South America, most of Central America, almost all of Mexico. Nasua  live mainly in tropical forests, but there are also on the edge of the desert.

  • Interesting fact

    This animal may produce a variety of sounds: snoring, grunting, screaming, whimpering and twittering. Thus, they communicate with each other. Altogether Nasua has 40 teeth. Average speed of movement Nasua is about 1 meter per second.
